For my birthday, mother nature gave me 1-2' ankle-biter waves today. Yesterday was a bit better, with me surfing the shore break close-outs and having a fun time. Let's hope that we get a decent swell down here in SoCal, as that last one didn't last nearly long enough!
Nov 21, 2003 15:32 | [ surf ] | # | G | Comments (0)Went out North of Swami's on my lunch, and there was some definite swell in the water. I'd estimate that most sets saw waves in the chest to head high range, which is large compared to the ankle-biters we've had lately!
I'm starting to get more comfortable on my board, and caught a few nice waves to show for my lunch hour. Could an early AM session be in the cards for tomorrow? Could be!

Of course, it is just a concept vehicle right now, so who knows if it will ever make it into production, but it looks damn fun, doesn't it? Forbes has an article on it as well.

So, to make the best of a bad situation, I went down to my home break and took a few pictures of those more reckless than I. ;>

Wee-ha! The week is starting out nicely with a great little swell producing some very nice waves. On my lunch, I went down to Swami's and hit the water. There were some pretty amazing waves rolling through every once in a while, a few of which I caught. :> Unfortunately, they don't call the place Swarm-ees for nothing. Yep, just you and 100 of your closest friends out for a surf...
Nov 10, 2003 14:11 | [ surf ] | # | G | Comments (0)For some reason, my back felt tweaked last night and this morning, so instead of surfing on my lunch, I thought I'd take the EOS 300D down to the surf and get some practice in. Here is one series of Bob riding a wave, a nice single fin I spotted, and a view of Swami's from the lookout point. Enjoy!

Let's just say that the surf appears to be improving, and that I need to do a lot of practicing with the camera and zoom lense to figure out what went wrong!
I tweaked one image with an oil-painting filter from the Gimp, and after cropping it a bit, it turned out pretty nice:
