  1. How do I initialize the system?

Whenever the EPROM card is removed from the computer, the capacitor will hold the program for about one minute. After that time the system must be initialized for the program to work properly.

    1. Insert the EPROM card into the computer and slide the RAM card eject button all the way to the left locking the EPROM card in place.
    2. Turn the computer on.
    3. Push the reset button on the back of the computer.
    4. Read "**     **" in the display. Press enter.
    5. Read "*" in the display. Turn the computer off and then on.
    6. Read 0 in the display. Press enter.
    7. Read Password, press a loan key or enter the password.

If you are using a RAM card, you will need to mail the computer back to Sherman & Associates for reloading.

  2. How often do I change the batteries?

We recommend that the batteries be changed every 6 months.

  3. What does a blank screen mean?

You probably need to change the batteries. If you are using an EPROM card, replace the batteries and reinitialize the program. If you are using a RAM card, send to Sherman & Associates for testing, new batteries and a program reload. Be sure and check that the batteries have been placed in the calculator correctly if it doesn't work properly the first time.

  4. What is the cost of servicing the handheld computer?

The cost for service is $35 and it includes new batteries, reloading the program and cleaning. If you have extended warranty, there is no charge.

  5. The paper in the printer won't advance. What do I do now?

You probably need to change the batteries.

  6. What is the difference between an EPROM card and a RAM card?

An EPROM card is black and a RAM card is gray.

  7. What is an error 4?

An error 4 occurs when the calculator's batteries have run too low. If you are using an EPROM card, replace the batteries in the calculator with new batteries and then reinitialize the system. If you are using a RAM card, you will need to send the calculator and RAM card to Sherman & Associates for new batteries and a program reload.

  8. What is an error 7?

The number is too large for the field specification to display. You must use smaller numbers or have the field size increased a digit in size. Please contact support for more details and/or options.

  9. What is an error 8?

An error 8 is a communication problem between the computer and printer. Most of the time the batteries need to be replaced in the calculator and the problem will be solved. If that doesn't solve the problem, you can always mail the calculator and printer to Sherman & Associates for servicing.

  10. What is an error 1,2,3,5,9?

The computer has lost part of the program. Usually this is due to low batteries in the computer. If you are using an EPROM card, replace the batteries and reinitialize the program. If you are using a RAM card, both computer and card must be sent in for testing, new batteries and a program reload.
